Today’s sharing from the Blue House of Via-HYGEIA, is composed of 3 selections from the stand-alone & idiosyncratic essays of Elvezia Gazzotti, a.k.a. Lotus Peralté, better known under her pseudonym of ‘Lotus de Paini’, excerpted from her main works we have gathered at our study-library.

…The magical rite bound the human beings to RECREATE in them the Universe, to redesign in their souls spiritually, humanly, what we call the sky, the earth, the beast, the plant, the tree, germination, the sea, the stone, the star…It also bound them to dramatize in their beings all the cosmicity in imagining it as daring, courage, loyalty, sociability, order, beauty…

The day when the creature Imagined what was surrounding it, ‘it gave to each things a name‘ says the Ancient Testament, which relates about magic, the human dawn and its realizations!

…The spiritual Image, the living Image in the depth of the soul, is such an unfathomable mystery! Marvelous realization that changed the face of things from top to bottom, deflecting the old furrow of the instinct, INTRO-DUCING THE GODS INTO THE WORLD!

The image, psychically quivering, formed itself slowly in the etherical transparences of the bulging soul…And the primitive human being SAW it: it was light, great, silent, made of SENSING & Mystery. It emerged from the soul, from the great waves of its unfathomable SENSING, in the night of its formidable unconscious, alike a beautiful body!

This was the first divinity in the human history…A great dream figure who gave birth to a new world invested by spiritual power! She opened the path to the mysterious pagan theogony, upon which we have pinned our conception of a materialist universe by beheading its great heads and in taking away its ‘living light‘.

This primal imagination in the remote soul came to us under the form of the ‘black Venus‘, the black Virgin of the great primitive tribes, fertile Virgin, essentially made of SENSING, carrying in her quivering loins an insatiable desire to feel humanly, carrying a new pain, a new morality….The whole future!

The great Virgin! The Lily of the human dawn! She became immaculate throughout human history, ‘cropped herself‘, became perfect in her appearance, pleasant, sensual, a ‘Venus of Milo‘.

In the Immemorial, she is the primeval figure who is at the same time sensorial & mystical to the soul, at the same time cruel & a redeemer, the Psyche, who bears a world of pain & love: LILITH, ISHTAR, ISIS, MAIA…All within their true identity, speak of the very first living Image FELT in the soul!

This birth of the ‘imagining Being‘ in the human being was the unfathomable mystery of the origins, this penetration into the world of the SPIRITUAL LAW; a LAW that nurtures with an intense life the Image that the human being fathers, ‘law’ that makes this Image a ‘free being‘ more powerful than this human being…Unfathomable mystery & mystery heavy of suffering, because, in order for humanity to be, the soul allowed itself to be captured; it submitted for the world of the human being.

Such a Mystery, as deeply sacred than DEATH on Golgotha! These two events were two cosmic anguish, a terrible & painful effort to close a world and to open another.

In order for the spiritual Image to be formed, the Great Soul, of human origin, allowed herself to be seized, intoxicated and bewitched; she could renounce to the Infinity, to her extra-terrestrial sensing, soft in the joy of the great elementary waves; she had to renounce to her intimate & deep impressions of an untamed being, without logic within the fluidity of emanations…She allowed for her to be taken, pressurized in the grip of sensory organization, in a duality; she had to tear herself into fragments, allowed herself to be immobilized, seeded into neurons.

Two thousand years ago, the Christian Mystery shows HER having crossed the frightening stage of strangulation, she moans in the vice (grip), dyes on the dry wood of the ‘intellect‘, the strong wood of our logic to which she gave all of her pristine sap. Golgotha was the ultimate push from all the ineffable cosmic SENSING aimed at the deep birth of the living Image. Our materialism originates from this acquired strength.

Yes, all of the free sensing of the cosmic soul had to penetrate in the human being in order to perfect a novel universe, the spiritual world, in order to give a precise individuality, firm, rooted in the exteriorized creature, without a central unit.

The Royal Virgin

…This long Atlantean period embodied the moment of the deep Inspiration…The Royal Virgins were the great Sybils of their times; they had the directing VOICE, as they were able to see the future worlds…Their people would feed from the powerful ‘Mana‘ that was flowing from their bodies… All of the magical conditions in their lives would produce such a emanation so powerful that it is difficult for us to conceive it in all of its extent. The mysterious ventral radiation, their solar strength were dominating, unchallenged.

Through and within the virgin rhythm of the self-fecundation, they would form the strong and resisting Crystal in which the inner human being would look…They gave substance and form to the cup of the human spirit and rooted Thinking in the human earth! This was the deep contribution of the magical royal Virgins.

I said that the Virgin’s regality was existing due to her intuitive being and to her obscure forces which are the sap of highest life, more real, more conquering…Yes, the Virgin is closer to the inner springs of the Universe, more embedded within the cosmicity in which she actualizes the mysterious parthenogenesis of the Human plant. She gave Thinking to mankind, like she would birth a child into the world. She is the gestating being per-se: The MOTHER. She justifies the ancient magical science. The entire phase in which the mystery of the plant is of a strict matriarchal nature; not because it is the woman who forms and give birth to the child, but because she is the Virgin inside the woman, who is empowered with the highest etherical powers, which can create with the cosmic force the Solar Thinking: the Royal Virgin is the Mother by definition.

The Vestals, these great Roman Virgins of royal descent, were the survival of this ancient established order of life; they had the power over life & death. Before them, the fasces would bow and their speech would have the value of a state decree, as Strabo would report. The were the ‘MOTHERS’.

Womanhood

…A woman is a marvelous plant of flesh; she owes from the plant realm its two beings; two deep breaths; alike the plant, she is chlorophylic; and similar to the plant, she blossoms her flower; she bears the fruit, she is ‘the GREEN ONE‘.

Therefore, under the influence of the deep thinking, the human being is ‘green’ and feminine, alike the plant which reproduces itself through her solar chlorophylic property. This womanhood exhibits the prevailing role of the magical role of woman in the plant mystery.

In this metamorphosis of the plant principles becoming human faculties, woman prevail over man. It prevails due to the the virtue of her very being, which is in a narrow affinity with the plant realm. This was the understanding of Magic. Here are the reason from which this ancestral science established the reciprocal individuality of man and woman.

Magic envisioned that in the eternal notion of Humanity, man and woman are the extension in nature, one of the male principle, the other of the plant feminine principle. This was rooted in the fact that in his occult essence man remains an animal, which means in movement, free from shackles, a hunter, looker, swift and positive, ever changing & under the influence of the Moon; as for the woman, she is a plant, solar; she is stable, conceives the mystical flower, bears fruits-hence essentially of an organizing nature, conservative & constructive by definition. These two individuality, man & woman, inherently different, rely upon the principles of the complementary sexes.

Until the age of seven, girls and boys do not differ essentially one from the other. The divergence shows up around the age of seven, when in their deep and obscure child  life, the sexual being starts to organize itself. The animal on the boy’s side; the plant in the girl’s side. From this moment, from an occult point of view, woman prevails over man, because in her solar being a deeper mystery is unfolding, the germinating forces of her womb are preparing for the formidable act of the formation of a living being!

In her underground life, the plant grows, rises, buds, become strong until the day when a bud opens, then the mystical flower blossoms and the red sap flows. This moment is extremely psychical, the feminine being exteriorizes intensively and falls, due to this state, mystical by definition, under the cosmic law. From ages immemorial, where everything centers upon the marvelous phenomenon of the life that weaves, the first blood is sacred.  it is called ‘the blossoming of the mystical flower’. A woman is ready for the mystery of fecundation. Starting from this moment, the occult powers of the feminine being strengthen further & further…

From the day when the plant-woman is fecundated, the work of the human fruit starts. From this moment, she is snapped up, tightly surrounded by the cosmic forces, which begin their work with her in a similar manner than when they work with the GREEN plant. A woman is sacred, virtually put aside, retiring from the circle of the usual animal influences. She becomes one body with the universe. Pierced through by all of the great elementary and stary influences, she ingrains deep. Her womb is under fire. A being grows in her flesh; from this flesh, another flesh will come out.

Her womb is under fire and her solar plexus is a great and ardent Rose, where all of the pure forces of the sun are at work, in this formidable creation of a human being.

This is the very pure dimension of a woman’s womb; a pool of universal forces aiming at giving life. In her, is the becoming of the worlds!

Further more, a woman is a complete being, cosmically speaking, because her solar plexus, which bathes all of her plant-being, she inherited the hermaphrodism of the plant. Physiologically sexed, she is a-sexual in her essence, ethereally a plant. So, she is virtually virgin by definition and essentially. The great sacred texts designate her as necessarily being the great virgin element, the only ‘fecund’ element in the future Humanity.

The virgin will crush

The Psyche of Woman

At the time of the Stone age, matriarchy has remained overwhelmingly present, because even though it had considerably evolved in its inner being and its external appearance, its influence is still perceptible. Women are still dominating due to their psychic strength.

The highest religious feeling belongs to women says the ancient world!

Prayer was a gift to men by women, said Strabo ( ‘Geographica‘, Book VII, section 4).

Women were performing the cult in the home. Men believed that ‘there was something holy in them‘. (Tacitus, ‘Germania‘, VIII).

In the foreword of his remarkable 1898 book, ‘Matriarchy‘, Johann Jakob Bachofen says: ‘There is only one powerful lever in all of our civilization, and it is religion. Development or decay are movements that take their origin in religion. Without it, the old ages are but an enigma, no epic can be understood. Matriarchal culture is essentially of a hieratical imprint, it it characterized by deep predispositions of women to feel, to touch, divine consciousness. It is precisely in the harshest times, the most remote, that the greatest veneration for women was had, and we cannot be surprised that they wielded  the scepter of power then. From all time, women had directed their spirit towards the super-natural, having extricated themselves from the terrestrial laws; and as a consequence have exerted a great influence over men. Women’s prophecies are older than those of men, and this supreme gift is the reason they were consecrated in the ancient times.’ (‘Mutterrecht‘, Basel, 1898, foreword, XII).

Pythagoras talks about the supernatural gifts of women from which they wield their power and their deep influence they had upon the organized life of the ancient people.

The deepest feature of the African is his love for his mother; it is the center of his ethics.’ (Wilson, J. Leighton (John Leighton), ‘Western Africa‘, New York, Harper & Brothers, 1856, page 116-117). In matriarchy, the older woman is invested with supreme powers.

The Egyptologists, Karl Richard Lepsius and Christian Charles Josias, Baron von Bunsen, have noticed everywhere in their research, the leading role of the African woman. The German anthropologist and librarian Gustav Friedrich Klemm, says it also, speaking about Cherkess women ( Klemm, ‘Die Frauen‘, Volume VI,  Allgemeine Kulturgeschichte der Menschheit (General Cultural History of Mankind), 10 vols., 1843–52.Berlin). Etc…

From where came the fact that women were humanity’s greatest religious asset? We touch here a original question of prime importance: The psychical conception of the sexes or of the spiritual androgyn.

It is good here to stop at this. A digression is needed for the author of this study who aims to understand in her spiritual being the deep causes of the two split social forces which which drive human evolution: Women & men.

In the study of biblical Genesis, in the topic of the origin of humanity, we find  a verse which throws a bright light upon the place, the element ‘woman’ and the element ‘man’ occupy in the occult economy of the body. This is the verse: ‘21 Therefore, the LORD God caused a heavy sleep to fall upon the man. And he slept. And he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 And with the rib which the LORD God had taken from the man, he made a woman. And he brought her to the man‘. (Genesis, 2, 21 & 22).
From an occult economy stand point, I understand: The mass of the etherical forces which soak the body like water sponges it and which gives it its great psychical values. This mass of etherical Forces, according to the wisdom of old, is polarized and its positive & negative poles each have a very defined character. These two poles were of an extreme importance in the old world, of an initiatic & social importance, and they are designated ritually and by legends by the ‘right side‘ and the ‘left side‘ and socially by ‘Matriarchy’ and ‘Patriarchy’. This is what the biblical verse imply.

Genesis, under its imaginative aspect, tells us first of the great human synthesis: the Androgyn who rules the universe. The image is deep and it is mis-interpreting the old text to believe that Adam and Eve’s creation was a simple operation consisting for God to knead a body with mud, and to insufflate life in its nostril, to take one of the ribs and to make a woman. The operation is more complex and is performed according an occult building-up upon the various planes of Being.

The first verse of the Bible remain a woven cloth of absurd contradictions, if we do not call for help a critical esoteric sense. Many translators of the Bible have simply crossed-out  the first verses, because they did not understand them. James George Frazer, in his study of the Ancient Testament, was struck by the blatant contradictions, that he did not dare try to resolve them…

Among the various modern translations of the old Hebrew book, Jean-Frédéric Osterwald’s translation is well used among them, it remain close to the original text and preserves Creation in 3 moments, despite the apparent contradictions:

The first moment of Creation tells us (Genesis, I, 27): ‘So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male & female‘. In this first phase of Creation, there is no question about Eve. ‘Them‘ designate the androgynal creation of the male & female principles, the Lilith of Kabbalah who contains virtually everything, the Ur-Matter, the Androgyn at the beginning of all the cosmogonies of the old world.

The second moment of Creation is this one: ‘…and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the Lord God had not made it rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground. 6. But mist would come up from the earth and water all the ground. 7. Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being‘. (Genesis, 2, 5-7)

Then: 8. ‘And the Lord God planted a garden Eastward in [i]Eden, and there he put the man whom he had made…/... 21. Therefore the Lord God caused an heavy sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in stead thereof. 22. And the rib which the Lord God had taken from the man, [y]made he a woman, and brought her to the man. 23. Then the man said, This now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman, because she was taken out of the man. 24. Therefore shall man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be one flesh. 25. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and they were not ashamed’. (Genesis, 2, 8 & 2, 21 to 24).

These two first moments are spiritual and speaks only of the Living Soul.

The third moment of Creation happened after the disobedience and this Creation is of the flesh. (Genesis, 3, 7). ‘7. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves‘. And later: ‘21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them‘. (Genesis, 3, 21). It is a man and a woman of flesh who are cast away from Paradise. Therefore, there is no essential contradiction in the Vulgate, but there are definite successive Creations; a point not understood by the exegetes.

The primitive psychical Androgyn is split in two sexual powers; this word is taken in its large acceptance, the superior one, which designate the Individuality. From this, woman & man are of equal nature and value: A woman is not anymore but a simple rib taken from man, but clearly the half of the Living Soul of the female-male Adam put to sleep deeply by the Eternal. The Hebrew word-cela-wrongly translated as ‘rib‘ is more like ‘side‘ in the more loyal translations of the philologists.

In this separation in two of the primordial Adam, the Old Testament does not tell us ‘from which side‘ the Eternal took the ‘rib‘ to make the woman; but occult investigation tells us that it is the ‘left side‘, the side of the solar negative powers, which means forces essentially spiritual. By mentioning the ‘right side‘ and the ‘left side’, mentioned in old texts, it is referring to the specific quality-‘left‘ & ‘right‘- of the Etherical forces that overflow the physical body in a luminous Aura, making this body a magnetic foyer of a formidable dynamism of SENSING, IMAGINATION & WILL.

The negative ‘left side‘ is powerful in women, the ‘right side‘ in men, because the primordial Androgyn remain in power within the sexed individual, but with the active organic actualization of one of the poles. Queerness is the etherical search for the pole of the Androgyn one feels the outmost resonance, overrunning the usual sexual dichotomy.

In the Creation of the woman, it is about great spiritual forces which shine from the primordial Androgyn: the woman comes out of the shining of the Living Soul!

Nowadays, we are slowly coming back to the old conception of the luminous etherical Forces of the bodies, but this time with Science. What our ancestors naturally saw, by the means of their psychic senses now requires the laboratory and the medium.

Karl Ludwig Freiherr von Reichenbach, a well known scientist of the 19th century, in a series of conferences given in Vienna at the royal Academy in 1869, speaks of the magnetic organization of the human being and he says that all the organic bodies up to the non-organic matter are, for the sensitive ones, ‘hemmed with living flames, dancing, offering many colors and of different sizes depending if they are on the ‘left’ or right side’. He calls these flames ‘OD‘. They are blue and sizable on the ‘left side, negative‘, and red and shorter, ‘on the right side, positive‘.

According to Reichenbach we can compare the Odic radiance to the radiance of the magnet; this is, though, a simple comparison, because he says that the Odic forces are complex, we could even say of a higher level, because brought up to the human frequency level of power. The proof is, resulting from long experiences conducted by the scientist, that the magnet does not have any action upon the human Odic flames, as their reactions are triggered by other causes. (Reichenbach, ‘The Odic Phenomenon’, Vienna 1866. Page 73).

As soon as we put ourselves into the rightful ambience, we can conceive the psychic forces of remote places and times, as real substances, as soon as every old traditions are illuminated by a strange scientific light. For the people of the old times, whose ‘visual sensitivity‘ was very vivid for a long time and they would see the psychical flames emanating from the body: the luminosity, the color, the height of this corporeal fire had an great importance, because the human beings would held their moral, social and individual values from their understanding. It was called Mana ! Mana of Man & Mana of Woman were the magical powers of the ancient world. (A Via-Hygeia note: Mana is often described as a form of supernatural energy or life force that fuels magical abilities and spells. It is commonly depicted as a resource that can be harnessed and manipulated for various purposes. On the other hand, Aura typically refers to a subtle emanation surrounding an individual or object, often perceived as a distinctive atmosphere or energy field. It can be associated with emotional states, spiritual presence, or even physical health).

Pliny the Elder, ‘Natural History‘ (Naturalis Historia), Book 7, in the ethnography section where he discusses strange peoples (the Machlyae), records the remark (citing Aristotle) in Latin: ‘Aristoteles adicit dextram mammam iis virilem, laevam muliebrem esse‘, and in English: ‘Aristotle adds that their right breast is manly, the left breast womanly‘.

(A Via-Hygeia note: Aristotle discusses right/left differences in embryonic development in ‘History of Animals’ (Historia Animalium), Book VII, chapter 3. In English (D. W. Thompson / public-domain translations): ‘In the case of male children the first movement usually occurs on the right-hand side of the womb and about the fortieth day, but if the child be a female then on the left-hand side and about the ninetieth day. However, we must by no means assume this to be an accurate statement of fact, for there are many exceptions…’ — ‘History of Animals’ VII. 3-. Pliny (Natural History, Book 7) cites Aristotle (when describing the Machlyae / androgynous peoples) to report a right/left bodily polarity (Pliny says, via Aristotle, that one side is more masculine, the other more feminine. Lotus de Paini will further below write about the Libyan androgynous ‘Machlyae).

These two magnetic powers, ‘the left side‘ and the ‘right side‘ were the objects of cultures: we were ‘lefties’ (predominant use of the left hand) under the matriarchate, under the might of the negative power; we were ‘righties’ (predominant use of the right hand) under the rule of the patriarchate, the positive power of man. The occult properties of both sides of the human body have given birth to two different world conceptions and usage of power, with their very distinct religious organizations & education systems.

Pedagogy, psychical rites were acting upon the soul with the help of the body, and upon the body with the help of the soul. Therapeutically, physiological and occult reactions were induced in the viscera, the blood, the muscles, the nerves, etc…

On the left side, while under the matriarchate, focus was upon the tip of the heart, the orientation of the stomach, the left kidney, the left lung. On the right side, under the patriarchate, focus was upon the liver, the gallbladder, etc…

The feminine element was in the sizable blue flames on the left side, which is the great negative power, persistent, protector-maintainer of life, the power which is the relentless might of permanence, the might which keeps the human race standing and not fallen: Women! The formidable negative power of the Unconscious, the world of Seeds!

Women are of a negative polarity; they are psychically in the negative blood which tradition calls ‘blue‘. Blood is charged with carbon, which carries the organic memory, all the lived sensibility, all experiences, and weaves the moral life in the soul. (See my other treatise, ‘La Magie et le Mystère de la Femme‘).

The great negative force of women allowed them to go through, magically the obscures mysteries of the Plant. Women are admirable human Plants! They were the spiritual Law of the old world.

When the matriarchate was at its apex, in the ‘non-Aryan’ old Egypt, so deeply feminine, a golden breast was carried ceremoniously in great length of devotion; a golden breast, like a cup filled of milk, carried by the side of the healing left hand of the statue of Isis, symbol of Justice.  (A Via-Hygeia note:Anaryenne‘ in French, ‘non-Aryan‘ in English. Bears the meaning of ancient, maternal, feminine, linked to lunar cycles, to Isis, to fertility, to cosmic receptivity, in opposition to the later in history term ‘Aryan’, bearing the meaning of patriarchal, rationality, the right side world conception of force, will and power).

This breast would symbolize androgyny. It was the effigy of the ‘left breast‘ which was burned at birth of a to a woman dedicated to the Amazon state. (Strabo, III, 6, 5). The woman became, from the moment of the ablation of the breast, the religious androgyn, the fierce virgin who was consecrated to war, to the defense of the land, to the founding of cities, etc… The state of Amazon was a human level of being extremely superior which lasted for quite some time.

The Machlyer Androgyn was the focal point of the religious cult of the people of Libya, entirely led by women; its left breast, a holy cup, had the meaning of, at the same time, great psychical food it bestowed, and of the great inner-organization of the Amazons being-level, of which warring foundations were considerable in Libya during their rule.

The Libyan women were wearing rings on both of their legs, while the men who where submitted to them and who were psychically feminized, were wearing them only on the left leg. The Amazons were wearing the Phrygian hat, alike the Thracian goddess Artemis-the greatest of Amazons-was wearing the ‘pilos‘ on Her head; and in the gnostic traditions, ‘pilos‘ meant ‘foreskin’: A symbol of  sexual manumitting (release, enfranchisement, freedom from).

The Libyan ploughman would shave his left side hair, says Herodotus (4, 190); he sacrificed to the feminine Nature. Strabo (113, 621) also says that the Pelasgians honored the ‘left side‘.

The left hand is gifted of healing properties. Macrobius talks about the medicinal holiness of the fingers of the left hand, of their etherical virtue: ‘ –a finger which is actually called medicinalis-and on the left hand rather than the other‘.  (‘Saturnalia‘, book 7, chapter 13, paragraph 7-which is also in Isidore of Seville, 11, 1, 71:  ‘quartus digitus annularis eo quod in ipso anulus geritur. idem est medicinalis quod eo trita collyria a medicis colliguntur‘ or in English: The fourth finger is the annularis (ring finger) because a ring (anulus) is worn on it. It is also called the medicinalis (medical finger) because doctors use it to collect salves (collyria) that have been ground‘).

Isis puts her left hand finger in the mouth of the son of the King Malkander to feed him; during her caretaking, she was wrapped with Light. (Plutarch, Of Isis and Osiris, 16). And Pausanias says speaking of Orestes who defeated matriarchy: ‘The matricide bit the finger of his mother‘. (8, 34,2). In the healing holiness of the left hand, the ‘Mana‘ is mentioned; women are great producers of it.

And ultimately, when the struggle between Matriarchy and Patriarchy became fierce at the dawn of a new era, when the age of Matriarchy was closing, in the Mysteries, the swapping between ‘right‘ & ‘left‘, the right foot will be used, the left horn of the apollinian altar ‘Keraton’ is replaced by a horn from the right side…

Jason the Minoan hero, according to Hyginus in his ‘Fabulae‘, paragraph 13 ‘Juno‘ writes: ‘When Juno, near the river Evenus, had changed her form to that of an old woman, and was waiting to test men’s minds to se if they would carry her across the river Evenus, no one offered till Jason, son of Aeson and Alcimede, took her across. The priests of Cybele, the Galli were castrated by performing the resection of the left testicle and this act had the value of a full initiation. We find this custom still alive with the San people in southern Africa who have feminine traditions most peculiar. It is difficult,  for a person of the Twentieth century, to extract from his own logic the reasons for customs practiced in the old world, if he does not go back to the motives that made them necessary; furthermore, this would be even more difficult if this person persists to ignore that in the old world, every motive is of a mystical nature!
