Today’s sharing from the Blue House of Via-Hygeia,  are two quotes from Mohyiddīn Ibn Arabi’s Chapter 167 of the  ‘Mekkan Illuminations’(Al Futuhat al Makkiyya), under the tittle: ‘Upon the knowledge of the Alchemy of Happiness and of its secret truths'(Kimiya-e Sa’adat). Berg International, 1981. Our Via-HYGEIA English translation derives from Stephane Ruspoli’s French translation.

1. “Alchemy is the science of the given proportions & measures to all that involves proportion & measure with the physical bodies and metaphysical concepts, in the sensible order and the intelligible order. It’s sovereign power lies in the transmutations, in that I mean the changes of states that affects the ‘Unique Source’(al-‘ Ayn al-wahida). Alchemy is a natural, spiritual and divine science. We declare it a ‘divine’ Science, by the fact it provides stable harmony, brings down forth divine revelations and intimates bonding (solidarity between beings) and by the fact it unfolds the divine Names that the ‘ Uniquely Named’ (al-Mosamma al-Wahid) pleasures in, according to the high diversity of their metaphysical concepts.”

4. ‘Alchemy is the ‘Science of the Scale’ at the heart of proportions & measures. It is the ‘Science of the Elixir’, which consists in two operative paths: Its action could either produce an essence ‘ab origine’ like ‘mineral gold’ (Dhahab Mad’dini) or either suppress an ailment or a disease, like ‘the gold of the refined process’, which is bound to the ‘mineral gold’, alike the constitution of the other world and our own world, in their common yearning for the just balance.’

1.“ L’ Alchimie désigne la science ayant pour objet les proportions et les mesures imparties a tout ce qui implique la proportion et la mesure parmi les corps physique et les concepts métaphysiques, dans l’ordre sensible et dans l’ordre intelligible. Son pouvoir souverain réside dans les transmutation, je veux dire les changements d’états qu’affecte la ‘Source Unique’ (al-‘Ayn al wahida). L’Alchimie est une science naturelle, spirituelle et divine. Nous la déclarons en effet une Science ‘divine’ du fait qu’elle apporte la stable harmonie, entraine la descente épiphanique et l’intime solidarité (entre les etres), et du fait qu’elle déploie les Nom divins qu’affecte le ‘ Dénomme Unique’ (al-Mosamma al-Wahid), selon la haute diversité de leurs concepts métaphysiques.”

4. ‘L’alchimie est la ‘Science de la balance’, au coeur des proportions et des mesures.  L’alchimie est la ‘Science de l’Elixir’, laquelle comporte deux voix d’application. Je veux dire que son action peut consister: ou bien à produire une essence ‘ab origine’, comme ‘l’or minéral’ (Dhahab ma’dini); ou bien à supprimer un mal ou une maladie, comme le fait ‘l’or de l’oeuvre’ (Dhahab Sina’i), qui est rattaché à ‘l’or mineral’, comme le sont la constitution de l’autre monde et celle de ce monde dans leur commune aspiration au juste équilibre.’
